Utah’s average teacher salaries rank second highest in the region and 25th highest nationwide, the Utah Taxpayers Association has found.
According to calculations by the Utah Taxpayers Association, the study found Utah’s average teacher salary for the 2015-2016 school year is $55,746, which is above the nationwide median of $55,630. This equates to Utah teachers being paid $116 more on average than the nationwide median.
Utah ranks second highest in average teacher salary among its neighboring states, following behind Wyoming, which pays on average $59,156. Utah is followed by Nevada ($55,630), New Mexico ($55,580), and Colorado ($52,266). The remaining neighboring states, Idaho ($48,753) and Arizona ($44,526), fall even further behind Utah.
This data is for the averages of elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers for the 2015-2016 school year, by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Center for Education Statistics. This does not include special education or CTE teachers, and is strictly based on contract salary data, and does not include any non-contract compensation for additional duties.
