Association Personnel


President: Howard Stephenson

Mr. Howard Stephenson has been with the Association since 1977. He began as the research analyst and later assumed the role of president. His background is in Public Administration in which he received his Masters of Public Administration from Brigham Young University. He is concurrently serving as state senator and resides in Draper, Utah.

Vice President: Billy Hesterman

Billy comes to the association from the Daily Herald in Provo where he was working as the political reporter for the newspaper since 2011. Prior to his time in Provo, he worked at a number of radio stations in the Salt Lake Valley performing a variety of duties including on-air work and planning promotional events.

He is a Utah native and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Mass Communication. He also has been involved in politics in a number of ways throughout his life, from passing out pamphlets for state legislature candidates as a young teenager to volunteering on a congressional campaign in college. He also was an intern in the Utah State Senate for the chief of staff handling communication and media issues during the 2010 legislative session.




Research Analyst: Spencer Nitz

Spencer Nitz was most recently the Social Media Director at KSL Television and KSL Newsradio, where he was responsible for setting strategy and developing the organization’s social media properties. Prior to his work with KSL, he was the Majority Communications Director for the Utah House of Representatives for 3 years, working under the direction of Speaker Becky Lockhart.

Spencer has experience providing direct involvement in communicating legislation and relevant other information to the citizens of Utah in an easy to digest way, creating digital and traditional assets to distribute through public and private entities.



Executive Assistant: Bren Robinson

   Bren is a native Utahn and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Mass Communications. She was employed at Channel 4 News as an Associate Producer for a year before she decided to step into the nonprofit sector.  She has most recently been involved at the Foundation for Family Life, where she worked with State and County authorities to bring fatherhood education to incarcerated men in Utah.

She stays involved in her local community, as she has been a member of the Board of Directors at the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce for three years and is serving as the 2016 Chairperson of the Board.

Bren is married and has two children. In her spare time she likes to travel with her family.  She also loves to bake and enjoys reading.
