The remainder of the increase would be distributed to repairs and improvements to the County Courthouse, the Fiddler’s Canyon building, the Dispatcher Center building and a 1.6% pay increase.
Utah taxpayers are among the most heavily taxed in the nation. Utah's total state and local tax and fee burden is 9th highest in the country and is 12.6% higher than the national average. Higher tax burdens lead to lower long term economic growth; therefore, when elected officials analyze their budget they should seriously consider the negative impact higher taxes will have on economic growth and future tax revenues.
Iron County will be conducting a Truth-in-Taxation hearing on December 19th, 2002 at 6 p.m. at the Iron County Courthouse, Parowon. The Taxpayers Association recommends that Iron County residents attend the public hearing and make their opinions known.
