Re: Proposed Tax Increase

Wayne County is proposing a 97% increase over the certified property tax rate. This tax increase was approved last December, and state law requires counties that are increasing property taxes to conduct a Truth-in-Taxation hearing in December and in August. The impact of the proposed tax increase is as follows:

Property   $150,000 Valuation   $300,000 Valuation
Residence*   $97.10 increase   $194.20 increase
 Business   $176.55 increase   $353.10 increase
* Residences receive a 45% exemption under state law. Business properties receive no exemptions.
