1Primary residences receive a 45% exemption. Business properties receive no exemption.
2Weber School District is considering a bond election in 2006.
Utahns already bear the nation’s 13 th highest state/local tax burden and the 3 rd highest burden when state/local fees are included. In recent years, school districts have been aggressively increasing property taxes.
Instead of raising property taxes, local school districts should demand that the Legislature prohibit abusive redevelopment agencies (RDAs) which diverted $48.8 million in property taxes from school districts in fiscal year 2005.
Currently, Utah school districts along with cities, counties, and the UEA teachers’ union are lobbying the Legislature to weaken Truth-in-Taxation, making it even easier for local governments to increase property taxes.
The Utah Taxpayers Association urges concerned taxpayers to attend their local Truth-in-Taxation hearings and let their voices be heard.
