Re: Proposed Property Tax Increase

Kane County is proposing a 24.41% property tax increase as detailed in the following table.

*Primary residences receive a 45% exemption.

With new growth, this tax hike will increase the county’s property tax revenues by 29.46%.

The property tax increase will be allocated as follows:

Flood control 17.1%
Health 14.1%
Library 15.3%
Assessing/collecting 29.6% (funded partly by increase in general fund)
General fund 23.9%

Proposed 2005 general fund expenditures are $4,500,020, an annualized increase of 4.8% compared to general fund expenditures for 2000.

A Truth-in-Taxation hearing will be held on December 27, 2004 at 6:00 pm in the Kane County Commission Chambers. Concerned taxpayers should attend the meeting and let their opinions be heard
